Yarmouth Loses To First-Place Greely

Saturday night was a good night to celebrate the Senior players for Yarmouth at home, at Travis Roy Arena. It was not, however, a great night to face the Greely Rangers. The Clippers seemed out of sorts and didn’t get or earn the breaks and bounces they needed for the win.

Yarmouth began the evening by celebrating the class of 2020 varsity hockey players with special recognition and photos with their family. The six seniors are brothers Justin and Jacob Veilleux, captain Spencer King, Jack Buthy, Aidan Miller and assistant captain Will Giese. The traditional evening was the perfect opportunity for everyone to show their appreciation to these six players for their contributions and dedication to the Yarmouth hockey program in their final, high school season.

As for the game, it was a perfect opportunity to show why Greely is ranked #1. Three goals in the first period quickly deflated the excitement of Senior Night for the Clippers. The boys in blue struggled to find their game in those first 15 minutes. Greely led 3-0. Shots on goal were 8 for Yarmouth, 12 for Greely.

Yarmouth found its stride in the 2nd when Matthew Robichaud scored early on a power play with assists from Will Giese and Cam Miller. Robichaud scored again 6 minutes later on another power play, assisted by Aidan Miller. Yarmouth had made things close with the score now 3-2. But, leave it to Greely to find ways to score while their players were in the penalty box. Two short-handed goals by the Rangers nullified the Clippers’ comeback attempt. As the wheels began to wobble for Yarmouth, two more goals were added to the Greely side of the scoreboard. The second period ends with Greely up 7-2. Shots were 15 for Greely, 8 for Yarmouth.
