The Lady Clippers (4th seed) hosted Winslow/Gardiner/Cony (5th seed) in a Regional Quarter Final game on Wednesday at Travis Roy Arena in Yarmouth. During the regular season, each team had beaten each other once. This decisive game would determine whose season would come to an end and which team would head to the next round.
It was all Clippers from the start. Just 2:47 into the game, Katie Hughes finds the back of the net with assists to Sadie Carnes and Lizzie Guertler. Then, just two minutes later, Emma Moll breaks free, gets a long pass from Hannah Swift and heads in alone and picks the corner to put the Clippers up 2-0.
Clippers outshot Winslow 11 to 5 in the first.
About halfway through the second on a power-play, Paige Rinaldi puts one in from the point through a screen to make it 3-0. We head into the locker room confident and up 3-0.
The third was a little back and forth, but Clipper goalie, Allie Perrotta, kept the 0 on the board for her fifth shutout of the season. Clippers had 2 power plays in the third and worked the puck really well hold possession. In the last 2 minutes, the Clippers had to kill off a penalty to hold the lead and were successful. Game Over 3-0 win!
Up next is the North Semifinal game. The Lady Clippers take the road Saturday (2/8) to face #1 seed Lewiston (17-0-1) 2pm at Colisée in Lewiston.
