Yarmouth/Freeport Girls Can’t Catch Portland, Lose 6-4.

The Clippers came out fast scoring just 30 seconds into the game.  Paige Rinaldi cleared a puck in front of our own goal to Liv Bradford. Liv took the puck most of the way, Chloe White cycled behind her to get in position for a pass and put the puck in the net.

A minute later Portland answered. Mid way through the period, Portland scored on a power play ending the 1st at 2-1 them.

Four minutes into the 2nd period Hannah Swift sent a beautiful breakout pass to Bradford where she did the rest – taking the puck the length of the ice tucking it five hole…now it’s 2-2 …

Mid-way through the 2nd, Portland gets two quick ones to go up 4-2. The Clippers will fight back and answer with 53 seconds left Averil Shahagian feeds a softy to Bradford and she beats the goalie short side. We go to the locker down 4-3. (shots 25-16 advantage Portland)

Portland gets two early in the third to go up 6-3 but the Clippers will not lay down. At 6:30, Chloe White and Liv Bradford break out in a 2v1 and just miss. With a little over a minute left in the game,  with the goalie pulled, Bradford sends a pass behind the net to Sadie Carnes and she finds White in the slot for a goal top shelf. With momentum, Clippers force Portland to call time out. Game ends with lots of pressure from the Clippers, outshooting Portland in the third 9-4.

“This was a tough one to lose, there were some heal points for us there.  We still have our eyes on our goal of getting into the postseason. We scored 4 today so that is a good sign. Once we tighten up our defensive zone coverage and control our gap between D and Forwards we will limit turnovers. I asked the girls to stay confident as there is still a lot of games left ”  -Coach Dave
