Last Pre-Season Scrimmage For Yarmouth Varsity Boys vs. Maranacook

The Clippers landed themselves a 4-0 victory over Maranacook in a pre-season scrimmage this Saturday. Despite the apparent lopsidedness of the score, it was a rather hard fought result.

#8 Jack Buthy (’20) finding the rebound to put Yarmouth on the board.
#7 Isaac Grondin (’22) edges out the defender on his way up the ice.

Yarmouth was unable to put together a strong first half and was for the most part outplayed for the first 23 minutes. They were fortunate for Jack Buthy (’20) who tapped in a pin-balling puck in front of the net. Later in the first half, hustle by Mark Harlow (’23) lead to a short handed tally by Grondin (’22) off a laser from the top of the circles. The Clippers were plagued by penalties throughout the game but fired back with strong penalty killing, including a 5 on 3 kill. Despite the favorable score, Yarmouth was dismayed with their forgettable first half effort.

#18 Ben Moll is locked in on the opponent.
#5 Spencer King (’20) weighs his options as he rushes the puck.

Grease boards were brought out and chalk was talked between periods. A much better effort ensued in the second half. An elevated energy could be felt on the bench. The Clippers took care of business with rebound goals from Mac McConville (’23) and Jacob Veilleux (’20). The game became rowdy when choice words were exchanged regarding some questionable hits. In the end, roughing penalties were assessed to both teams.

Nothin’ but net for #7 Isaac Grondin (’22).
Another routine save for #31 Charles Henry Watson (’22).

The standard stellar Yarmouth goaltending was showcased throughout the game as well. Extensive penalties put ample pressure on Yarmouth’s Goalies Charles Henry (’22) and Liam Ireland (’20). They were there to answer the call as both goalies put up big save after big save to preserve the shutout.

Despite a lack-luster start, the Clippers walked away unscathed and are working towards their December 10th 5:30 season opener against Waterville/Winslow at Colby College.
