Despite out shooting Winslow 43-15 the Lady Clippers came out of Saturday with a 2-1 loss. From the start the Clippers were on the attack registering their first 3 shots in the first minute of play. At 7:58 in the 1st the Clippers failed to make a clean breakout and Winslow D stepped up stole the puck and shot through a screen for the first goal of the game.
Shots Y-15 W-6.
The Clippers then get a 5 on 3 power play, some beautiful passing at the point by Hannah Swift and Paige Rinaldi sending pucks in to the forwards that sent a barrage of shots at the Winslow goalie to be denied once again. Olivia Bradford took a nice breakout pass from Emma Moll and sailed a shot just wide of the top corner.
A scoreless 2nd period controlled by the Clippers with a 9-4 shot advantage but we still couldn’t break the ice including a breakaway by Olivia Bradford. Liv took an outlet pass from Swift and beat two players and was in alone when the Winslow goalie came up with a big save.
At the end of the second a couple Clipper penalties put us on a 3-5 disadvantage with 2 of our Defense in the box.
After killing off the 2 penalties the Clippers continued to pepper the Winslow keeper. Finally @9:35 in the 3rd, Paige Rinaldi sends Olivia Bradford in and she snipes one high stick side top corner. Trying to hold a 1-1 tie the Clippers still get their shots 19-5 advantage in the 3rd. At 3:25 Allie Perrotta makes a nice pad save but bodies get tied up in her crease and the puck seemed to disappear and some how ends up in the goal. Down 2-1 the Clippers fought hard pulling their goalie with a minute left but ran out of time.
“If was a great effort by the girls on opening day, when you run into a hot goalie the only thing you can do is keep shooting and we did. Overall, I am pleased with the effort, we moved the puck well and had our chances. We still have a few things to iron out to get where we need to be” – Coach Intraversato
