Games to Raise Mental Health Awareness

This Saturday, January 26th, the Yarmouth-Freeport Girls Varsity Hockey team and the Yarmouth Boys Varsity Hockey team will be facing off against the Gorham Rams in a Doubleheader to raise awareness about mental health.

The Girls will be playing at 5:30 pm and the Boys will take the ice at 7:10. Both games will be at Travis Roy Arena in Yarmouth and all proceeds from the game will be to benefit the Maine chapter of the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI-Maine).

To fundraise, coaches from both teams have volunteered to be a part of our “Pie the Coaches” contest where the coaches from each team with the most money in their jars will be pied.

There will also be a bake sale at the game with the goods baked by the Yarmouth-Freeport Varsity Girls and Yarmouth Middle School Girls team.  Around the rink, all four teams will participate by filling out “I Fight For” Posters to honor friends and family.  There will also be blank posters for fans to fill out as well.

To get the word out, on Friday, January 25, Channel 6’s Hannah Dineen will be doing a segment on the games and mental health awareness.

All teams will be using lime green hockey tape on their sticks and the Yarmouth-Freeport Girls team will be wearing special jerseys and laces.

Our players and their families dedicate this weekend’s games to ensure that everyone knows that it is okay to not be okay and to encourage people to speak up if they are hurting in any way.

We hope to see you all there to support the teams and the cause.
