Cape Elizabeth scored a power play goal with three seconds left in the game to hand Yarmouth a 2-1 loss. The loss drops the Clippers to 2-4-0 as they face four games over the next week, which includes three games against Class A opponents.

Charles Henry Watson ’22 was phenomenal in net with 39 saves, but the Clippers lack of offensive output has been their downfall this season. Cape started off the scoring with a power play goal in the second period. Watson made a nice leg pad save on a shot from Phillip Tarling, but Gavin Simopolous buried the rebound.

The Clippers struggled with effective puck movement and the result was a lack of quality scoring opportunities. With 2:35 remaining in the game, Kurt Heywood beat Garrett Mello on a short-side, top corner shot from a tough angle to tie the game. Sam Marjerison ’19 and Spencer King ’20 were credited with the assists. However, Cape would have the final say as Simopolous tipped a wide shot from the point for the game-winner with three seconds on the clock.

Yarmouth will host Cape in both team’s final game of the regular season. On Saturday, January 5th, Yarmouth will take on Falmouth at Family Ice. Game time is 7:20 pm.
