Yarmouth Falls to Gardiner

Bill Jacobs buries the rebound for Yarmouth’s first goal

The Clippers fell to top-ranked Gardiner 4-2 and continued their four-game slide.  Although a losing streak has been uncharted territory for this team over the past two years, two of the losses were overtime games that easily could have gone the Clippers’ way and would have put a very different spin on the season.  Despite the recent losses, the Clippers remain in a playoff spot going into the final four games of the season.

Junior Graden Caulfield fires puck into the offensive zone

Yarmouth dominated the first period and had a number of scoring opportunities.  The Clippers drew first blood with a power play goal as Owen Ramsay fired a low wrist shot and Bill Jacobs buried the rebound.  Cooper May was also credited with an assist  The 1-0 lead would hold up to the end of the first period and as had been the case for much of the season, the second period was the Clippers’ downfall.

Gardiner reeled off three unanswered goals as the Clippers had defensive breakdowns and were often standing around in their defensive zone.  In the middle period, Yarmouth was simply outworked.

Freshman Spencer King at the blue line

In the final period, Yarmouth showed some life  when Sam Marjerison made a nice move at the offensive blue line, saucered a backhand pass to Joe Truesdale who then fired a pass to Chris Romano for the easy tap-in goal, but it was too little, too late.  Just as a Yarmouth power play expired, the Clippers were outworked in their own end, which led to a Gardiner tally and the final score of 4-2.
