Latham, Latham & Latham

Junior Dan Latham

Dom Morrill scored a dramatic game-winning goal in sudden-death overtime, but Dan Latham deserved to be named all Three Stars of the Game.  After a great effort against Portland, the Clippers drifted through two periods, but Latham played perfectly and kept his team in the game.  Finally, Yarmouth woke up in the third period and pulled out the improbable victory.

Dom Morrill’s increased physical play and four-game point streak have been an important part of the Clippers’ success.

From the opening face-off, Greely dominated play and effectively moved the puck in Yarmouth’s defensive zone, but Dan Latham was up to the task.  Greely did everything possible to rattle Latham, but to little effect.  The attempt to crowd Latham backfired when a Greely goal in the second period was waived off due to goaltender interference and the teams entered the final period in a scoreless tie.

Greely finally solved Latham just over five minutes into the third period when Greely’s Ben Kennedy fired a shot through a scramble in front of the net for the opening tally.  A little over a minute later, Greely scored again and it seemed that the floodgates were about to open, but the Clippers battled back.

On the next shift, Sophomore Sam Marjerison drove the net with the puck and Captain Owen Ramsay fired home the loose puck to get Yarmouth back in the game.  The goal finally woke Yarmouth up and they played like a different team in the final minutes.

With 2:59 left in regulation time, Cooper May skated hard to the net and Bennett Travers made a beautiful pass that May fired home to tie the game.  Yarmouth had a power play opportunity in the final minutes, but could not find the back of net and the game went into sudden-death overtime.

In sudden-death, Latham continued his outstanding play to keep the Clippers alive and just after a Greely penalty expired, Morrill fired a low angle shot that beat Greely’s Josh Lawless to pull out the win.
