Clippers Move on to State Championship

Yarmouth notched a decisive 5-0 win over Gardiner to win the Class B South Title, which sets up a State Championship match-up with perennial powerhouse Waterville.  The Clippers came out flying and the result never seemed in doubt, although Gardiner’s netminder kept them in the game through the first period.

In the opening stanza, Yarmouth outshot Gardiner 14-6 and was clearly on a mission.  However, they were stymied until Chris Romano fired a shot through traffic that deflected off Noah Grondin who had gone hard to the net.

With the YC Ultras taking over the Colisee, the Clippers got stronger in every period.  In the second period, Owen Ramsay made a nice pass to spring Bill Jacobs who buried his breakaway shot to make the score 2-0.  Jacobs picked up a power play goal three minutes later when he fired a rebound into the Gardiner net.  Romano and Grant were credited with the assists.

In the third period, Cooper May extended the lead to 4-0 with a nice individual effort.  May had a partial breakaway and established body position, which forced the Gardiner defender to attempt to haul him down.  With a delayed penalty called, May still managed to beat the goaltender to the far side for a highlight-reel goal

Sophomore Joe Truesdale picked up the final goal on a power play when Walter Conrad made a nice pass to him in the slot.  Truesdale’s tally sealed the victory and Dan Latham walked away with another shutout.
