Like the Mongol hordes sweeping across the steppes of Central Asia, the YC Ultras took over yet another rink. In what felt like a home game, Yarmouth extended their winning streak to three with a 6-1 victory over Leavitt.
The Clippers got started early as Patrick Grant found the back of the net just over a minute into the game with assists from Cooper May and Walter Conrad. It was then May’s turn to extend the lead to two with an unassisted tally.
In the second period, the Clippers struggled to get untracked and it was not until the final two minutes that they scored again. Patrick Grant (May) and Walter Conrad added goals to make the score 4-0, but Leavitt did not give up. With 47 seconds remaining in the period, a power play shot by Leavitt’s Connor Cyr snuck through a screen and dribbled behind Dan Latham to spoil his shutout bid.
The Clippers added two nice third period goals for a final score of 6-1. Cooper May made a nice centering pass to Noah Grondin for the first tally and Patrick Grant following with a pass that led to an open net goal for Joe Truesdale. Cooper May was credited with the secondary assist on Truesdale’s goal.
In the third period, Dom Morrill was moved up to wing and had no qualms about throwing his weight around in the corners. Joe Coyne also logged a number of minutes and played well. In the closing minute, Walter Conrad just missed connecting with Erik Salmon on a couple of scoring opportunities.
The Clippers have a week-long hiatus until their next game with Falmouth on Tuesday, February 2nd at 7:40 pm. On Saturday night, they will hit the ice for the annual Father-Son game. Vegas has the Fathers as favorites by 3 goals.
NOTES: In the third period, Center Chris Romano was caught by a dangerous leg check and suffered a knee injury. Romano went back to the bench, but did not return to action. It is hoped he will be ready for the Falmouth game.
