Conrad & Grant Lead the Way

In the third period, Conrad fires a shot as Grant drives the net

Despite the Clippers’ listless performance, Walter Conrad and Patrick Grant, by sheer force of will, dominated the third period and pulled out the victory.  Simply, both players demonstrated to their teammates that there is no substitute for hard work and an unbending desire to compete.  The win moves Yarmouth into first place in the Heal Point Standings.

Cooper May, with an assist from Walter Conrad opened up the scoring less than two minutes into the game, but York came back to tie it with 5:54 remaining in the period.

In the second period, York took the lead and largely dominated play as they outworked and outhustled the Clippers.  Luckily for Yarmouth, their captains got angry during the intermission and were not going to let down the YC Ultras who turned out in force.

Twenty-nine seconds into the third period, Patrick Grant out-battled the York defender and tied the game as he crashed into the end boards.  Although shaken up on the play, Grant did not miss a shift.  May and Conrad were credited with the assists.

At 8:17, York took the lead when it converted a 2 v 1 break.  Trailing by a goal, Yarmouth struggled to generate solid offensive opportunities, but in the final minutes Walter Conrad took over.

With 2:51 remaining in the game, Conrad (Grant) scored the tying goal and less than two minutes later scored a tremendous unassisted goal to pull out the victory.  The last three minutes of the game were an incredible individual effort by the best defenseman in the State of Maine.

Battle in front of YC Ultras

The Clippers move on to play Leavitt at Norway Savings Bank Arena in Auburn on Monday at 7:10 pm.  Yarmouth will then have a week-long break as it does not have another game until next Tuesday against Falmouth.
