The Clippers came alive in the third period to score three unanswered goals and rolled to a commanding 4-1 victory over Gorham, which was last year’s Western Class B Champion. The win places Yarmouth atop the Class B South standings and sets up a big matchup against Kennebunk this Saturday.
Noah Grondin started off the scoring with an assist from Chris Romano to give Yarmouth a 1-0 lead, but Gorham evened the score with 1:22 left in the period on a goal from Carl Bear (Peterson).
In the second period, Yarmouth finally got untracked and began to generate offensive opportunities as they outshot Gorham 15-6 in the period, but Gorham’s Brogan McDonald made a number of key saves.
At 5:48 into the third period, Patrick Grant (Conrad) made a hard-nosed rush into the Gorham zone and drove the net to score the game-winning goal. Grant’s tally ignited Yarmouth’s offense as less than a minute later, Bill Jacobs ripped a shot to give Yarmouth a 3-1 lead. Patrick Grant and Sam Marjerison were credited with assists.
In the last ten minutes, Yarmouth did a good job of clogging the neutral zone and denying scoring opportunities to Gorham. With 28 seconds remaining in the game, Walter Conrad scored an unassisted empty net goal for the 4-1 final score.
Dan Latham had 21 saves and was very effective in denying Gorham any second chances on rebounds. Noah Grondin was awarded the Hard Hat for his strong play.
